Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. You can book an appointment without a referral.
However, a valid GP referral is required if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate. -
Medicare rebates may be available to eligible clients with a valid referral under an approved Medicare program.
Because Medicare pathways and session limits vary, we’ve provided a detailed explanation here:
Understanding Medicare Rebates for Psychology Services -
The number of Medicare-rebated sessions depends on your referral type and eligibility. Session limits are set by Medicare and your referring GP and may change over time.
We recommend discussing session numbers directly with your GP or Medicare.
-
If Medicare rebates are no longer available, you’re welcome to continue therapy as a private-pay client. We can discuss options with you if this becomes relevant.
-
In some situations, it may not be appropriate for a psychologist to see multiple people who have a close personal relationship with one another (for example, family members, partners, or close friends).
This is to avoid conflicts of interest and to protect the therapeutic relationship. We will discuss this with you if it becomes relevant and, where appropriate, help you find an alternative referral.
-
To maintain clear professional boundaries, psychologists do not engage in social, personal, or dual relationships with clients outside of therapy sessions.
Contact outside of sessions is limited to practical matters such as scheduling or administration.
-

This includes (but is not limited to) family law matters, court reports, forensic assessments, letters for legal proceedings, or acting as an expert witness.
-
Therapy and court work have different roles and ethical requirements. Combining them can compromise the therapeutic relationship and is not appropriate within a treatment setting.
If court involvement is required, we may recommend seeking an independent forensic or court-appointed practitioner.
-
